Practices and Tournaments Cancelled

Dear parents, athletes, and coaches,

As I'm sure all of you are aware, the instances of COVID-19 have been on the increase in New York, and specifically in our area of Westchester County.  Many schools, both public and private, at all levels are closing for a period of time.  In order to look out for the safety of our members and their families, GEVA, the USA Volleyball governing body in our area, has decided to cancel all tournaments in our region through the end of March.

As a result, Downstate is cancelling all practices, at all facilities, until the week of March 23.  We will be following the news closely and will decide on Sunday, March 22, regarding the resumption, or not, of practices. During this time we are closing the Downstate Athletic Center to ensure a clean and safe environment.  Before reopening, we plan to thoroughly clean and disinfect the facility.

A few teams have tournaments in the Albany area over the next 2 weekends.  The tournament organizer for the Great Nor'Easter currently plans to continue the event.  While Downstate does NOT recommend that our teams participate, the parents on those teams may choose whether or not to play. Coaches should already be reaching out to those teams.

The Youth Recreation Leagues, that were scheduled to begin this Saturday, at Somers, will be delayed for at least 2 week.  We will let all of the registered participants know about the planned new start date.

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach the directors at info@downstatevolleyball.com, or call me on my cell phone, listed below.  Please stay safe, avoid large public gatherings, and wash your hands often!
