210808 Downstate Tryouts Information
Greetings Downstate families!
We hope you have been having a great summer. It’s hard to believe that we’re approaching the start of school, in about a month, and the start of many high school varsity and jv volleyball tryouts coming up in a couple of weeks.
In conjunction with the start of many high school tryouts, Downstate will be holding our tryouts for the upcoming 2021-22 club volleyball season, starting the weekend of August 21/22. At that time, we’ll be holding tryouts for teams based on 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders (grade is for the upcoming school year), from four practice locations. We’ll hold tryouts for the 8th graders, and younger age groups, starting in late September. Please see our website, at https://downstatevolleyball.com, for details on tryouts dates and times for each location. A link for tryout registration is also at that same location. For details on the various teams and programs, including costs, please visit the link titled “2022 Team Info & Cost”, under the “Locations” menu for your prefered practice location, on our website.
Please note that you only need to register 1 time for tryouts and you may attend the tryouts at more than one location. Also, we run 2 tryouts per age group, per location. While it’s not mandatory to attend both tryouts, it is HIGHLY recommended! Specifically, if you will be missing the 2nd day of tryouts, please let us know by sending an email to info@downstatevolleyball.com. We will make offers for all teams following the completion of tryouts for that age group and location. You don’t need to bring anything to tryouts except a smile and a great, competitive attitude! Offers will be made via an email sent to the email used during tryout registration – so please make sure that email address is entered correctly!
We’re looking forward to a return to a fairly normal club volleyball season! We hope that you’re as excited as we are and we look forward to seeing all of the eager athletes at tryouts!
Regards,
Staff and Board of
Downstate Juniors VBC
P.S. We are aware of an email that GEVA sent out to those of you that had registered for USA Volleyball (GEVA) last season. Please note that as a club, we form teams for Downstate that will compete in sanctioned activities under 3 possible governing bodies – Garden Empire Volleyball Association (GEVA), the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and the Junior Volleyball Association (JVA). We will ask our athletes, after teams have been formed for Downstate, to register with one or more of those governing bodies, depending upon our final schedule for each team. At that time, we will fully comply with all rules and regulations required for sanctioned activities with the appropriate group. We don’t request “sanctions” for our tryouts from any of these organisations – their “sanctions” are primarily used by clubs that need the insurance those groups can provide. Many of the larger clubs across the country carry their own insurance and don’t rely on any specific governing body for tryout santions. Downstate has our own insurance policy through one of the larger sports insurance groups in the country – Philadelphia Insurance.
P.P.S. To contact us, please use email to info@downstatevolleyball.com. We don’t have staff answering the phone at the gym; but, we’ll respond to every email as quickly as we can!
