Delgado Reyes enters his 11th season with the Mustangs women’s volleyball program heading into the 2021 season.

Coach Delgado Reyes has been one Puerto Rico’s most revered volleyball coaches. Along with his impressive track record of success, Coach Delgado Reyes emphasizes a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence both on and off the court.

Delgado Reyes joined Monroe College in 2011 and immediately brought the volleyball team into national prominence. He was instrumental in the transition from NJCAA Div. II to Div. I.

Heading into the 2019 season, Coach Delgado Reyes has amassed an overall record of 232-63 (.786).  He has surpassed the 30-win plateau four times and has captured seven Region XV championships, eight district titles and has appeared in the NJCAA national championship four times including a ninth-place finish in 2013. Coach Delgado Reyes also captured his 200th career win during the Mustangs’ 2017 season.

For his accomplishments on the court, Delgado Reyes was named the District Coach of the Year five times (2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018).  Additionally, he was selected as the AVCA Two Year College Northeast/Southeast Coach of the Year twice. Delgado Reyes’ teams have won a pair of Region XV Sportsmanship Awards, and in both 2016 and 2018, took home the NJCAA National Tournament Coaches Association Sportsmanship Award.

Coach Delgado Reyes also puts significant effort to guiding his students so that 100% of them graduate and ultimately assist them so that they can move on from Monroe with scholarships at the next level. During his tenure, five of his teams earned NJCAA Academic Honorable Mention Awards (2012-13, 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19). The Mustangs have also earned four straight AVCA Team Academic Awards (2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19).

As for the young women he coaches, Delgado Reyes has seen one – Hazel Ortiz-Rosado- earn a spot on the 2013 NJCAA National Championship, All-Tournament Team.  From there, Ortiz-Rosado became the first Monroe volleyball graduate to play that sport professionally. Six of his players have earned All-American status and more than 40 of his student-athletes have moved on to four-year colleges following their time at Monroe.
